The Drawing-room Is Finished in Old English Oak and Has a Curved Ceiling Ornamented in Stucco February, 1907 AMERICAN HOMES AND GARDENS 69 kitchen and cutting gardens stretch to themain road, isolated and complete in detail.The permanent summer residence was noterected at the time of the first purchase ofthe estate. For many years, Mr. White-house lived in one of the farm cottages, ashe was desirous of taking his own time inbuilding. The house was completed only about ayear ago from plans designed by Mr.Whitehouse. It stands on the highest ele-vation of land and faces the ocean. It is alarge and handsome country home, con-structed of concrete. Massive pillars sup-port the entrance porch and porte-cochere.There are large sloping gables from whichrise the chimneys, of more than ordinarysize, attractive loggias, and many bay win-dows. Diamond-shaped panes of glasshave been introduced, and add much to thepicturesqueness of the windows. The interior contains many novel fea-tures. The lower
