For the fireplace tallandirons of wrought-iron, simpleand dignified in design, will holdlogs for a real fire, or if coal is useda basket grate for coal can be in-stalled. In either case there will bethe necessary accompaniment oftongs, shovel and poker, and caremust be exercised in selecting theseadjuncts to fire-side comfort. The portieres and curtains forthis living-room now come in forconsideration. As there are nooutside shutters to the house, heavycurtains for Winter use against the cold winds must beprovided, with some sort of thin curtaining next the glass. These may be of Swiss muslin, with a small figure, hav-ing some of the pattern in dull blue or dull green orthey may be of plain cream-colored scrim with a delicatelystenciled border in color. For the windows these curtainsshould not fall below the wood-work underneath the sill.
