mplicity. Perfectly in accord also with the atmosphere of thismountain countr^ is the lovely garden of Stephen Par-rish, Esq., delightfully unique and suggesting a little Eng-lish garden. The best gardens of Vermont, with its still greater areaof uplands, are probably those in and around Manchesterand Bennington. They are usually of the simplest char-acter, and lovely under the personal care of devotedowners. One worthy of special attention is seen in theview of Longmeadow garden, which is an example of thegreat value of trees as a background, and a strong argu-ment in their behalf.
